Following the divestment of the business from Selex ES Ltd in August 2016, I was appointed as Head of SIRM UK. I am responsible for the UK activities of SIRM, to ensure company aims and financial targets are met. This includes the general management and leadership of a multi sited, UK wide technical business, with over 50 employees. I am responsible for general management, sales direction, and delivery of the strategic UK business plan. As Head of Marine, I am responsible for all tactical operational activities of the marine line of business, to ensure company aims and financial targets are met. The role requires a good understanding of the maritime market and uses my proven ability to lead a geographically spread team to achieve results consistently. I am required to make decisions on an hourly basis to drive for results and this does require a good understanding of the competition within the various market sectors. Also responsible for preparing and reviewing forecasts for consolidation into company financial figures, these include, but are not limited to, Orders, Sales, VOP, Margin, overhead costs, debts, stock and cash flow. As the business head, I also report our results and forecasts at the UK Divisional LOB reviews. Job DescriptionAs the Service Manager I was responsible for all business activity undertaken by 15 regional service centres located around the UK. This included; business planning, sales support, service interventions and support contracts. Primary objectives are to grow a profitable and efficient support business and achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.Scope of the Service Department; I. 24/7 Customer support and field service interventions on vessels or offshore installations.II. Installation & maintenance of vessel electronics, conducting safety surveys of ships.III. Transactional sales of equipment, service and maintenance contracts.Key Responsibilities• Direction of a distributed team of engineers through direct reports such as Regional Managers. • Direct the company’s support resources and Service Coordination team to ensure quotations, invoices, supplier orders and customer interactions are handled in a professional and timely way.• Work with bid teams, provide service input into tenders to ensure aligned approach to market. • Drive the transactional business forward to grow profitability within the department. • Ensuring financial targets and budgets are met. Job role and responsibilities as above, however the role was split between me and another senior manager with me reporting to the more Senior.

Engineer-in-Charge Job SpecificationAs an Engineer-in-Charge I was responsible for the efficient and profitable management of the Lowestoft regional office. In addition to being a Service Engineer. Responsibilities included management of staff, supporting customers as the technical authority, and conducting sales & quotations.Key Responsibilities• Required to support, supervise and direct a team of 5 engineers and support staff. • Install, repair and maintain communications and navigation systems in line with regulations. • Design solutions to meet customer specifications or support Systems Engineers as needed.• Interface with Customers including ship’s crew, engineers and contractors. • Conduct ships safety radio surveys on behalf of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.• Conduct sales, quotations and invoicing. Included key account management to promote sales. Key Achievements1) Recruited new Engineering team2) Achieved significant increase in orders, by second year increased by over 50%.3) Improved margins to be consistently over 30%. Engineer utilisation significantly increased.

The primary role of an engineer was to independently effect the installation of navigational and communications systems on board vessel or on offshore installations in line with the requirements of SOLAS, class, IMO and MCA regulations. This often involved installation of equipment which was potentially lifesaving. The role also included conducting repairs, both planned maintenance and emergency repairs of safety critical systems. Often working alone and on a worldwide basis meant that as a marine engineer I had to be able to be self motivated, highly organised and able to confidently make decisions.I began this role in a training post to learn specifics of specialist maritime equipment.
