Aircraft Engineeringtechnician

Worldwide

The Royal Navy has played a pivotal role in the person I have become today, developing typical military qualities such as self-discipline, motivation, confidence, decision-making, organisation and the ability to adapt and overcome stressful situations come naturally now. As a dual traded technician, I have spent most of my time working on Sea King helicopters, carrying out scheduled, preventative maintenance and fault finding tasks on aircraft systems both avionic and mechanical, with particular experience in hydraulic, radar, gas turbine and transmission systems. Working in a constantly changing environment health and safety is a constant thought and working abnormal and long shift patterns are things I have become used to. As a natural leader I was fast tracked for promotion and was team I/C at the commonwealth games in 2014, confident in front of crowds I have presented subjects in front of large audiences and written various detailed reports on airframe systems. In 2013 I was awarded fleet "AET of the year", this was down to my dedication and relentless hard work, going above and beyond what I was asked to do. More recently I have been a mentor to trainees helping them cope with the high demands of military training.

Marine Engineering Officer Cadet

Worldwide

During my time at the City of Glasgow College, studying towards my HNC mechanical engineering, I spent 3 months on board a large container ship, MV Maersk Erving. Travelling between Europe and south-east Asia, I was tasked with shadowing the qualified engineering officers on board, learning to maintain and repair propulsion, power generation, fuel, sewage and other marine systems. On occasions I was in command of a small team of motormen and given a task to complete, this meant delegating and overseeing situations that occur during the task, being an outlet to the motormen should any problems arise and having confidence to take charge. The time I spent at sea gave me a lot of hands on experience with marine systems, developed my engineering knowledge greatly and allowed me to realise the ability I have to lead a team and be an easily approachable and outgoing figure to many different individuals from other cultures and backgrounds.

Aug 2010 - Sep 2011

Conference Assistant

North Berwick, Scotland

Organising major conferences, weddings and other events my role as a C&B assistant involved working in a large team which were responsible for the smooth and successful running of events. I worked closely with my manager and was trusted on numerous occasions with taking charge of small to medium size events, coordinating and managing the times and places I had to be to prepare and present the area or event for the customer. Planning these events was greatly rewarding and is a very satisfying role. On other occasions, working as a day and night receptionist I was the first point of contact for customers of the hotel, carrying its reputation and dealing with many difficult situations calmly and effectively so the problem or query the guest had was resolved quickly. Working in customer service in the hospitality environment means long hours and being able to cope under pressure and fatigue which I excelled being awarded "employee of the month" on several occasions.
