Professor Scott Harrison has almost 40 years of experience in the arts and education sectors. He is known for his research on gender, pedagogy and curriculum in performing arts. His co-edited volume ‘Teaching Singing in the 21st Century’ (2013) is a much-read volume, and will be followed by ‘Musical Theatre Education and Training’ to be published in 2024. Scott was previously co-editor of the International Journal of Music Education, and recipient of an Australian Award for University Teaching. As an Australian Learning and Teaching Fellow, he explored pedagogies for higher degree research. A former President of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing, Scott performed as an opera singer for over 20 years. Scott has been involved with the International Society for Music Education, serving as Parliamentarian and chair of the 2022 international conference organising committee. Scott currently serves as Chair of the board of the Australian Youth Orchestra.He has served as Pro Vice Chancellor for Arts, Education and Law at Griffith University since June 2019. In addition to this post, he commenced duties as Assistant Vice Chancellor (Cultural Curation and Community Partnerships) in January 2024. Prior to his tenure as Pro Vice Chancellor, he held a six-year term as Director of Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, a comprehensive tertiary music school with offerings in classical instrumental studies, composition, vocal and opera studies, music technology, popular music, jazz, acting and musical theatre.
