About Scott Hildreth
I have the extreme good fortune and pleasure to teach Astronomy & Physics for the past 35 years at Chabot College in Hayward, California - one of the state's 118 community colleges. And as of 2021, I have the honor and privilege of working as one of NASA’s Airborne Astronomy Ambassadors, managed by SETI, as well as with the NASA Community College Network project (NCCN) and with the Vera C. Rubin Observatory curriculum development effort to use real data for astronomy investigations and labs. Chabot is a terrific school, dedicated to helping students of any age and background to find success. The entire faculty, classified staff, and administration work well together, especially reaching out to the students in our community - most of whom are the first in their families to go to college. Chabot is lucky to have a planetarium, with a 30’ dome and Spitz digital projector, and I have served as the facility director for more than 25 years now. I've been active in online teaching and learning since 1995, when I started one of the college's first completely online classes, and still teach online sections of Astronomy today. I’ve used that experience to assist in creating and managing our campus’ distance education committee, now operating for 20 years. And I have enjoyed the chance to work on a variety of grants including some funded by the state as well as NASA and NSF. My science research interests include gravity waves and the observations of the sun with NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. My educational research interests are in how our students can learn even more effectively with online tools and systems.
Listed skills include Research, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Teaching, and 13 others.
