In 2002 I started out as Printer Operator, with duties that included printing and delivering reports, labels, and tickets. I was also responsible for performing data backups to tape via Unix console. I was quickly promoted to department supervisor and oversaw operations of the entire departmentIn 2008 printing operations were dissolved and due to my working knowledge of the data center and experience working with the data center vendors I was transitioned into the role of a Computer Operator IV. In this role I provided: triage and support for all data center issues, monitored all servers, switches, third party appliances and applications via Nagios/Solarwinds; performed data backups via NetBackup console; and monitored automated jobs via AutoSys/UC4 job scheduling software. Additionally, I mentored junior operators and served as point person for driving results to completion during off hours.I was promoted to Lead Operator/IT Operations Supervisor in 2012. During my 5 year tenure in this role I began to take on a more managerial role. I was responsible for the day-to-day Data Center Operations including monitoring of all systems and network devices. On a daily basis I would attend Change Management meetings to coordinate and communicate any and all data center concerns and activities being performed. I assisted management in redefining the IT Operations role within the organization as well as provided management with feedback surrounding employee performance. I designed and implemented data center assessment form, safety guidelines and daily data center tours, prepared emergency planning protocols and maintained Ashrae guidelines for environmental standards. I worked to improved standard operating procedures. I revamped and streamlined shift turnover process within the department and developed training methods for a staff of seven operators. I was primary on-call for around the clock data center issues, managed vendor projects and ensured timely completion.
