I manage operations & supervise clinicians in a group practice. In my clinical work, I provide outpatient individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, as well as biofeedback and clinical hypnosis, and psychological testing (cognitive, neuropsychological, and personality).

The Psychology Center, Inc. is a group psychology practice in the Beverly Neighborhood of Chicago. Population consists of diverse ethnic backgrounds and SES, ages ranging from childhood to older adults, with a wide range of presenting problems. I provide outpatient individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, as well as biofeedback and clinical hypnosis, and psychological testing. I also work on billing, promotions, and Internet marketing for the practice.

As Vice Chair, I work on graduate student scholarship selection; generate student interest through networking, coordinate and liaison student training with training committee; maintain social network pages.

As part of the basic training faculty, I taught didactic modules on hypnotic principles of induction and treatment planning. I supervised trainees in hypnotic techniques and hypnotizability testing. Curriculum included the history of hypnosis, clinical uses and integration into practice, treatment planning, and evidenced-based practice. Curriculum was based on the standards developed by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Workshop co-presented with David Paul Smith Ph.D. at The Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis 2013 Annual Conference, Berkley, CA. This workshop introduced the audience to a history of thinking that examines the relationship between spirituality, aesthetics and the creative process. Clinical case files, research on spirituality and traditional healing, and hypnosis and creativity was presented. The workshop was devoted to teaching and experiencing hypnotic techniques designed to enhance spiritual growth and the creative process

Primary duties included evaluating patients for appropriate biofeedback/pain management techniques; orienting new patients to the program on the benefits of biofeedback and relaxation techniques; teaching patients psychoeducation regarding triggers for pain symptoms and relevant relaxation exercises to relieve symptoms; conducting biofeedback training utilizing sEMG and thermal instruments; charting client’s reaction data and liaison with physician and treatment team; maintaining equipment and orders supplies; participating in biofeedback research; administering and scoring clinical outcome measures.

I taught a 14-week course in advanced psychopathology. Lessons and didactic programming focused on the use of the DSM 5, as well as the changes between it and the DSM IV. The course also focused on the biopsychosocial model of health and dysfunction, evidence-based treatments as well as a critical look at the process of diagnosis and treatment through a Common Factors focus, as well as cultural and individual differences.

I created the curriculum and a lesson plan for 14-week course in psychopathology assessment and diagnosis for master’s level students. DSM 5 and biopsychosocial model was covered; changes from DS-IV-TR, cultural aspects affected by diagnosis and the Common Factors model were also discussed within the lesson plan.

Gateway Foundation West Side is a 95-bed drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, with inpatient and outpatient programming. Patients consist of low SES, and mixed ethic backgrounds, including African American and Latino populations. Many are referred by the court system, many with dual diagnoses of addiction and SMI. Primary rotation was delivering comprehensive assessment and group and individual treatment to all patients on the LSTAR (Life Skills and Recovery) unit, Gateway’s 16-bed, Mental Illness and Substance Abuse (MISA) unit, as well as providing consultation to the unit counselors and clinical director. Secondary rotations included comprehensive, ASAM assessment and insurance pre-certification with the Intake department, and assessment and treatment with the men’s and women’s adult unit, male adolescent unit, and Intensive Outpatient program. Psychometric assessment was also performed across units for diagnostic clarification. Evidence-based practices utilized for group and individual therapy (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based relapse prevention, and biofeedback). Performed diagnostic testing and biofeedback with patients from all units, and provided supervision for an advanced extern.

I delivered comprehensive assessment and treatment to patients on the Adult Men’s Unit, with a minor rotation on the LSTAR (Life Skills and Recovery) unit, the Mental Illness and Substance Abuse (MISA) unit. Evidence-based practices were utilized for group and individual therapy (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness based relapse prevention).

Provided compressive assessment and treatment in outpatient clinic within a small, urban hospital, with primarily low SES, African American population. Ages of patients ranged from children and adolescents to adults and the elderly. Also assisted with billing and insurance claims, outreach and marketing for the practice. Inpatient treatment facilitated groups for 48-bed, psychiatric unit. Groups consisted of process/life skills and activities groups. Assessments were performed for the psychiatric and other units. Inpatient assessments were primarily related to differential diagnosis for medical issues or cognitive difficulties in elderly population. Outpatient assessment included comprehensive cognitive and personality testing.

Developed lesson plan and taught supplementary lab for graduate cognitive and intellectual assessment incorporating intellectual and achievement measures (WAIS-IV, WISC-IV, WIAT-III, WRAT-IV). I graded papers and test protocols, and lectured. I also tutored graduate students in process of psychological report writing, and ran mock clinical interviews. I also administered test administration examinations.

Developed and taught lab/lecture for twenty-person graduate course in assessment and basic psychological intervention for three semesters. Selected and structured case studies for homework assignments. Taught and assisted students in basic intervention and assessment skills. Graded exams and comprehensive therapy role-plays with case conceptualizations and treatment plans.

I worked for MHDR at Scott Nolan Center; a psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents. The patient population consisted of child to adolescent, diverse ethnicities, from varied SES background. Several patients suffered from severe developmental disorders of childhood, and adjustment, trauma, mood, and thought disorders. Adolescent patients often were dually diagnosed with substance abuse. Administered assessments to patients on the adolescent boys and girls acute residential, and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing unit. Testing consisted of intellectual functioning and personality domains, utilizing both objective and projective measures. Assisted staff with milieu therapy with deaf and hard of hearing patients. Activities included social interaction and monitoring, as well as cognitive and behavioral interventions.

I researched private funding sources and fast-tracked grant development for this large, Mid-western human services non-profit.

Haymarket Center is a 500-bed, inpatient and outpatient drug and alcohol detox center. The population at Haymarket was multi-cultured, adolescent to middle-age spectrum, mostly male, from a broad range of SES, diverse sexual orientations, and usually with severe mental and emotional impairment and low GAF. Patients displayed a broad range of presenting problems, often with dual diagnoses of Axis I and II issues, and always with a co-morbidity of substance abuse and dependence. Many of them were LGBT in their sexual orientation. Provided psychological evaluation and treatment of dually diagnosed patients. Psychological evaluation for in-patient units and central intake was performed for a high volume of patients, for a variety of presenting problems, often involving crisis intervention. Provided consultation, leadership, and treatment for the Crystal Methamphetamine Outpatient Program.

Mental Health America of Illinois is a state branch of the national, mental health advocacy organization. Duties included organizing and coordinating 1,600 Illinois Community Mental Health Center consumer participants and volunteers at Illinois Mental Health Rally. Also assisted with organization of Social and Emotional Learning and Columbia University Screen Teen mental health outreach initiatives with Chicago Public Schools and neighborhood organizations. Researched and followed up with funding grants for mental health initiatives, and participated in, and provided input with state legislative measures at monthly Illinois Mental Health Summit.

I provided hypnosis for clients in the area of behavior modification: smoking cessation, weight management, phobia elimination, habit change. Clientele was primarily middle to upper middle class SES. Many were from the entertainment industry.

As part of an undergraduate externship through Hunter College, NYC, I participated in and co-lead activity therapy, art therapy, and initiated patient self-assessments on the inpatient psychiatric unit. I also led an activities therapy game group.

I provided services to the Actors'​ Fund, working with members of the Scree Actors'​ Guild, Actor's Equity Association, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Referrals were for behavior modification: smoking cessation, weight management, phobia elimination, habit change, and life transition issues.

Dynamic Changes was a large hypnosis clinic, with large caseloads, with offices in three boroughs. Population consisted of middle to upper SES, from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Presenting problems consisted mainly of behavior modification (smoking and weight-loss) issues. Counseled clients with hypnosis and brief therapy techniques.
