Design For Excellence Engineer - New Product Introduction, Subsea 2.0™Technipfmc 2016 - Apr 2019Dunfermline, Scotland, United KingdomLead DfX Engineer for Subsea 2.0™ supporting Scotland, Brazil and Houston. Subsea 2.0™ is a new product platform made up of six core products designed by combining field-proven and new technologies. The core products include the compact tree, compact manifold, flexible jumpers, distribution, controls and horizontal connectors. The products achieve up to a 50% reduction in size, weight and part count, while maintaining the same or better functionality. Main focus areas were focused on a Lean Process Product Development framework:Defines Customer Value:- Translates customer needs into clear, consistent and prioritized requirements.- Defines the parts of the product that need to be enhanced and which stay fixed.- Officializes the project objectives: timing, cost targets, product re-use, etc. Guides the Development & Industrialization of the Product:- Represents the customer as the final referee in the choice of concepts- Make key system-level decisions – system integration- Ensures that Quality, Cost, Delivery and Product Features are achievedDrives Continuous Improvement: - Challenges the organization to innovate to meet customer needs whilst managing risks.- Integrates components to optimize the system, raises the bar on component-level objectives.- Ensures that learning from the project are captured and communicated to the organization.TechnipFMC invested heavily in the research and development of Subsea 2.0™ using Lean Product and Process Engineering. This new “configure to order” model means there is a 70% - 90% reduction in manual activities during the production process, reducing hardware delivery time for clients. With Subsea 2.0™, it is possible to achieve zero hours of product engineering after the contract has been formalized with a "Make to Order" solution. -

I am an expert within CAD software packages such as NX, Autodesk Inventor and Creo, I am capable of rapid concept generation, producing detailed manufacturing drawings as well as multi component assemblies and arrangements. I created concept designs and wrote engineering documentation such as visual assembly procedures, test procedures and design specifications. I manged budgets and deadlines for all designs, which I produced. I would allocate work to CAD resource and manage allocated CAD and FEA tasks I produced tender quotations for new tooling designs and updates to legacy equipment. I assisted in the development of visual management with use of lean management principles. -
Engineering ApprenticeshipTechnipfmc 2009 - 2013Dunfermline, Scotland, United KingdomOver this period I spent significant amount of time working in all business functions such as Manufacturing, Assembly & Test, Supply Chain, HSE, Projects, Quality and Engineering. This helped provide a cohesive understanding of the industry I was joining and how organizations operate between functions. As part of my apprenticeship I also viewed it as an opportunity to Fail. We have most likely all heard the term "fail-fast". This was a perfect opportunity to learn from experts in every function whilst applying practical aspects and learning from the mistakes I made. I believe an apprentice truly gives you the best of both. Practical hands on experience and theoretical learning in parallel.
