With over 10 years of experience in plant biochemistry, I am passionate about uncovering the secrets of quinone biosynthesis and function in plants. Quinones are vital for respiration and photosynthesis, and also have important roles in human health and nutrition. As a Biological Scientist III at the University of Florida, I aim to advance the knowledge and understanding of these complex molecules, and contribute to the scientific community and society. In my current role, I lead and conduct research on the biosynthesis and evolution of quinones in plants, using a combination of biochemical, molecular, and genetic tools. I have discovered a missing ubiquinone biosynthesis gene and a hidden connection between the biosynthesis of flavonoids and ubiquinone in plants. I have also gained new insights into the evolution of the plant quinone biosynthesis genes. I have published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented my findings at international conferences. I have also developed skills in biochemistry, polymerase chain reaction, enzyme assays, and data analysis. I enjoy collaborating with other researchers and mentors, and sharing my enthusiasm and expertise with students and peers.
