With an in-depth knowledge and love of the automotive dealership industry, I am a member of HHM’s Dealership Service Group. I oversee audit and assurance work, internal control reviews, and tax planning for multiple automotive groups ranging in size from single-point stores to multi-store groups with close to a billion dollars in revenue. In addition to the traditional services an accounting firm provides, I consult on various business situations including operational processes, expense control, floor plan analysis, merger and acquisitions, performance analysis, forecasting and budgeting, financing, and capital structure. I also partner with exceptional colleagues to bring expertise to complex tax issues, business valuations, estate planning, and litigation support. My focus is to partner with clients, building long-term relationships, and helping them reach their highest potential.

As the CFO of the Bower Automotive Group, I led finance, accounting, and treasury activities for multiple dealerships and body shops located in Tennessee and Georgia. I offered strategic management support to the owners and general managers of each location with respect to operational and financial analysis. I developed, implemented, and monitored financial controls, policies and procedures. I coached the controllers, accounting staff, and the dealerships’ management teams to improve efficiency and profitability through best practices. My combination of industry experience and public accounting background allowed me to address the challenges of the business on a daily basis.

I initially spent over two years with HHM’s Dealership Service Group overseeing audit and assurance work, planning, and consulting for multiple automotive groups. I had the opportunity to work with exceptional colleagues and clients which was the driving factor to return to public accounting and HHM.

As the CFO of the Ted Russell Automotive Group, I provided a hands on and detailed approach to leading and managing all finance, accounting, and treasury activities. I was responsible for four locations with six new vehicle franchises, used vehicle operations, and a public auction. The operations include approximately 300 employees with approximately 200 million in sales. I offered strategic management support to the owner with respect to operational and financial analysis. I was responsible for timely financial analysis, monthly financial reporting, and tax returns. I developed, implemented, and enforced all financial controls, policies and procedures. I increased efficiency through improving the processes and the procedures and better utilization of technology.

I began my career in public accounting. I have experience in auditing, corporate tax, compliance, internal controls, various business structures, training and managing personnel, performing under pressure, and meeting deadlines. Fifteen years at Pugh CPAs provided a diverse experience across a broad range of industries including wholesalers, automobile dealerships, convenient stores, petroleum distributors, construction contractors, religious organizations, manufacturing, governmental, mining, utilities, not-for-profit, employee benefit plans, service organizations, and real estate companies. I gained valuable experience with complex accounting transactions and researching issues such as derivatives, asset retirement obligations, fair value projections, foreign currency, and real estate transactions. I planned and managed all aspects of engagements for audits, reviews, compilations, agreed-upon procedures, projections and forecasts, and research projects. I implemented new accounting pronouncements including the initial research and training of team members and clients.
