About Scott Mason Fca Cfinstd

I have had a blessed career to date in terms of amazing opportunities, and consider myself fortunate to have worked with some truly exceptional people, both within my various firms and across our clients. Having had 30+ wonderful years in CA public practice, I am well into my next career as a professional Director and Advisory Board member across a wide range of industries and stages of company. From an early stage, I have understood my strengths (strategic/conceptual thinking) and weaknesses (some of the nitty gritty), and sought to surround myself with people more gifted in their specialist areas than I will ever be. In some ways this has meant that, irrespective of the value I seek to add from my personal skill/knowledge, I am a facilitator of value creation through the power of many. This insight has allowed me to build teams filled with people I truly care for, and means I can choose to work with businesses that both interest me and I believe I can add significant value to. I am a commercial beast at heart, and thrive on deal-making/problem-solving, bringing together pragmatism and creativity in often unique ways. Whilst I enjoy deep long-term relationships, I am at my best in times of crisis and/or major events. Two specific passions are the education and technology sectors. As a result, I am very interested and active in the "start-up" company area, and am a trustee of StartUp Dunedin Trust, helped form Mainland Angel Investors, plus am a mentor/director/investor of/in several tech start-ups. I continue to be involved as an expert witness in a variety of civil disputes, which I absolutely love. This lead to me qualifying as a Mediator through AMINZ (2016). At the heart of every commercial dispute (and succession plan) is a human issue so I hope the combination of commercial nous and mediation skills will enable me to help others seek the resolutions they deserve.I would like to think that I am a lifelong learner, and thus read widely and continue to stretch my mind. In addition to my BCom, BA and cBA from Otago University, I have completed my GradDip (Dispute Resolution) through Massey University. My desire for professional and personal development is perpetual.
