I was born and raised in Madison, WI and grew up milking cows and working on my grandparents family dairy farm. A small dairy farm may not be much in the grand scheme of things, but for me that small farm in Southern Wisconsin had a massive impact on my life. The lessons I learned from waking up before the sun and getting my hands dirty have lasted throughout my life and instilled a work ethic, I’ll forever appreciate.When I hit High School; however, I ended up making some bad choices and fell into substance and alcohol abuse. (A habit I’ve kicked and been sober now for 20+ years!) I ended up dropping out of school and drifting for a bit. That is, until I decided to join the Navy at the age of 17. And with just a few short years of military discipline, I came back more mature, and ready to get my life in order. Since my time in the Navy nearly 4 decades ago, I’ve built my career in PA education. I’ve served as faculty, program director, and research assessment chair at top universities. I’ve published more than 20 research articles and have been cited numerous times for my work, and I’ve also had the opportunity work as a success coach for PA students for over 25 years.I love what I do because for me it’s all about helping the underdog succeed. I came from humble beginnings and had to fight and claw my way to get where I am today, and I want to help other underprivileged and underrepresented individuals have the support I wish I had when I was in their shoes. This is what led me to create SUCCESS SKILLS FOR PA STUDENTS. I noticed there was a gap for students when they were transitioning from undergraduate to PA or Medical School. They are smart students, but they just haven’t been given the proper tools to help them succeed at the graduate level. With this comprehensive course, I’m helping both students and PA/Medical School programs reach their highest potential.
