About Scott May

Scott received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Hope College in 1993. He received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Indiana University in 1998. Scott joined the process research group at Eli Lilly as a Senior Organic Chemist in 1998 and is currently VP of chemistry in Lilly Genetic Medicines where he has responsibility for development and chemistry, manufacturing and control (CMC) activities.Scott has over 20 years of experience in the area of synthetic design, material delivery and process development of new drug candidates. That experience extends from pre-clinical work to advanced clinical trials. He has developed strong interdisciplinary partnerships with discovery chemistry research, analytical, formulation sciences, regulatory, quality, process engineering groups and manufacturing. Scott has been a strong advocate for the implementation of new technologies notably Lilly’s development catalysis lab, continuous manufacturing (CM) initiative, and the oligonucleotide development capability group, and CMC strategy. Scott's leading role in developing the technical capabilities for implementation of CM within discovery, development, manufacturing, and the external network has provided key background which he is applying to his current role within Lilly Genetic Medicines. Scott represents Lilly as a steering team member for the European Pharmaceutical Oligonucleotide Consortium (EPOC). He is also a member of the scientific advisory board for Asymchem. Scott has published his research in peer-reviewed journals, served as a peer reviewer, presented lectures at numerous conferences, organized technical symposia and regularly participates in research collaborations with academic groups.
