Doris Henderson Newcomers School is a public school for refugee and immigrant students that have recently arrived from across the Middle East, Africa, South and Central America and Asia. One of few schools of its kind in the United States, Newcomers aims to help transition students by equipping them with the language and education tools required for success in their new lives. - Created and taught lessons for refugee and immigrant middle grades ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students for science, math and reading classes- Collaborated with a team of teachers to target lessons to address individual student needs (i.e. personal history, cultural backgrounds, previous education level, knowledge of English language, etc.)- Maintained discipline and order in classes to promote maximum student growth

ReDev is a young International Humanitarian Assistance and Development NGO promoting appropriate relief and sustainable development by collaborating with local governments and other humanitarian organizations.As Middle East Regional Project Manager:- Responsible for building and maintaining local and regional networks of community development workers and seeking out meaningful projects for ReDev- Maintained relationships with international donor networksCoordinated short term relief and longer term development projects, such as the following:Yeşilbahçe Refugee School Project:- Key liaison between ReDev and Syrian refugee school employing 9 teachers and educating 250 students- Led campaign to raise 3 months’ operating costs from individual private donors while investigating sustainable local funding to continue the operation of the school indefinitely- Worked closely with Syrian community leaders to identify need for and implement therapeutic art classes for studentsSyrian Refugee Aid Project:- Facilitated purchase, processing, and distribution of food and supplies to refugees who were forced to flee Syria after ISIS siege

Oversaw hygiene seminar in a Kurdish and Romani gecekondu (shanty) neighborhood:- Trained 12-member volunteer team on general principles of cross-cultural relief work- Designed and oversaw implementation of hygiene seminars for low-income Kurdish and Romani children- Coordinated logistics for team, including: scheduling, transportation, budgeting, and accommodation - Led fundraising campaign to provide for supplies, transportation, and other logistical expenses

China: - Assisted local NGOs working with Bunu Yao people in China to improve the quality of life in villages and larger citiesThailand: - Provided support to a safe-house for at-risk children fleeing internal conflict in Myanmar
