Profile bio

About Scott Paulin, Ph.D.

I do math and write software to increase Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR).I currently work for Lumin and am building/growing tablab.app.For Lumin I:* Find conversion rates in the app that have the biggest impact on MRR* Figure out if these conversion rates are most affected by user behavior or software bugs* Video call customers or test/debug the app to see how we can improve important conversion rates.* Help prioritize and set up A/B tests or bug fixes based on what is likely to have the biggest impact on MRR for the least amount of work. I believe that technology is a tool to get the job done. I don't mind learning or using different technologies. Here are the technologies that I have been working with recently:* Querying Clickhouse to identify user behavior and conversion rates (SQL)* Superset for building charts/dashboards* Building data models with Data Build Tool (dbt)* Python and pandas for ad-hoc data analysis* Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to analyze user behaviour* Hotjar for viewing session recordings* Hubspot for sending emails to get customers on video calls* I helped design Lumin's data system. Included things like AWS architecture e.t.c.* Typescript, Javascript, React, Nextjs.* Supabase, Postgres.Other:* Growing tablab.app with SEO* Currently taking Lumin through SOC 2 compliance* Took Lumin PDF through a Google OAuth Verification. Included writing policy, getting pen-tested e.t.c.* I spent three years writing and optimizing robot motion planning algorithms in C++ during my PhD.* Awarded top final-year university engineering project in New Zealand (Ray Meyer Medal). We designed and built a robot to climb between pine trees for felling. The robot was featured on national news e.t.c.* Played age-group cricket for Otago and once wanted to be a professional cricketer. I think sports psychology is an under-rated skill in the workplace.

Listed skills include Science, Qualitative Research, Python, Latex, and 7 others.
