I encourage students to look at controversial topics from a variety of perspectives and to take action on issues that concern them. -Outside of the classroom, my biggest commitment has been to the Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA). My colleague Emma Munro and I founded the GSA in 2011 with a handful of passionate students. Since then we've worked hard to make the school a more welcoming place for gay and trans students through a number of initiatives: art projects, political advocacy work, student-led workshops etc.-Other extra-curricular commitments: annual Algonquin Park expedition, Bicycle Club, Ultimate Frisbee, Student Vote

-Researched and wrote a 98-page report titled “Equal in Dignity and Rights: Promoting the Rights of Intersex Persons in Kenya” (KNCHR, 2018). This report was described as a “seminal report” and as “the first research study done on the intersex in Kenya” by the Kenyan intergovernmental Taskforce on Intersex Persons, mandated with reforming Kenyan law.

-Lobbied Foreign Affairs Canada and Members of Parliament to respond publicly to attacks against Colombian human rights defenders-Coordinated human rights campaigns with a broad range of Canadian civil society organizations (unions, churches, lawyers, academics etc.)-Organized cross-Canada speaking tours for Colombian human rights defenders

-Provided protective accompaniment to Colombian human rights defenders and "peace communities" facing political violence-Advocated for Colombian human rights defenders in meetings with Colombian municipal authorities and military officials, UN agencies, and international diplomats, including Canadian embassy officials.
