First professional sale, the short story "The Mailbox,"​ won a Tamarack Award from Minnesota Monthly magazine in 1987 and was published in Minnesota Monthly in October of that year. Since that publication, has had poetry, humor, nonfiction, short stories, and two novellas published, including the Star Trek novella Honor in the Night in Myriad Universes 3 (2010), the mystery "Clothes Make the Man"​ in the anthology The Writes of Spring (2012), and the Lovecraftian short story "The Squid that Came to Phil's Basement"​ in the Spring 2014 issue of Space and Time Magazine. Contributed urban fantasy stories to each of three anthologies in the ReDeus series (2012-2013). Had a Star Trek eBook published by Simon & Schuster in 2014. Cowrote the screenplays for the IMAX space documentaries Space Next and Touch the Stars. Self-published the novella The Big Dark along with William Leisner's novelette Meet John Doe. He got busy writing short stories again during the pandemic, contributing to various anthologies: "The Ghosts of Glenmirror" in Castle of Horror 4, "In the Time of the Martians" in Turning the Tied [that's not a typo!], "The Day It Came From Beyond Outer Space" in Thrilling Adventure Yarns 2021, and "The Murder Couple" in Castle of Horror 5.

Acquisitions Editor

Started as a copyeditor; promoted to associate editor at Zenith Press, a then-new military history imprint. At Zenith Press, worked on such books as Tales from a Tin Can: The USS Dale from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay, which received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly. As Acquisitions Editor, developed the e-book That's What They Want You to Think: Conspiracies, Real, Possible, and Paranoid. Also acquired a collection of first-person stories about World War II Mustang pilots, The Fight in the Clouds.
