Scott Phillips was the founder, Managing Director, and driving force behind Boomer Home Loans. During his career in the banking, financial planning, and superannuation sectors, Scott continually met older Australians who were underfunded for retirement yet held substantial value (equity) in their family home - in many cases, an amount that would make a real difference in how they fund their retirement. For many, the equity in their family home is their most valuable asset but making that equity work for them is generally overlooked. In 2017, Scott co-founded the fintech reverse mortgage broking business “Smooth Retirement”, which sought to modernise and streamline the distribution of equity release products via an online platform. The concept and technology further developed over several years and in 2020, Smooth Retirement’s Board made the decision to transition from its broker business to becoming a non-bank lender in a bid to help more Australians aged over 55 with their home loans in the lead-up to, and in retirement. Scott led the team from its early start-up years, first as Smooth Retirement and then Boomer Home Loans, and was involved in every aspect of the company and its development. He was instrumental in the development of the company’s proprietary modelling software, Boomer’s innovative business model and customer journey, and was the creator of Boomer’s market-first hybrid home loan, the Boomer Switch.

In 2013 I established the Perth Office for StatePlus (formerly known as State Super Financial Services).I led a Team of Financial Planners and Client Service Officers who were experts in public sector superannuation, retirement planning and financial advice. Responsibilities included Planner supervision, file checking and compliance, coaching, profit and loss oversight, business development, change management and liaison with external service providers.

Worked closely with the General Manager to achieve the establishment of new to Perth start-up venture. Then ongoing responsibility to ensure the smooth ongoing operation of the business, particularly Finance, HR and Marketing.
