Scott has over 37 years of experience in the upstream oil industry, with roles in capital project planning and execution, business unit leadership, operations management, commercial, planning and subsurface technical areas. After retiring from Marathon Oil in 2018, Scott founded Upstream Development Decisions, a consulting practice assisting clients in the planning and execution of major capital projects around the world.While at Marathon Oil, Scott held managerial assignments with responsibility for major capital projects in Angola, Norway, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and was the country resident manager for Marathon’s operations in Equatorial Guinea, the company’s flagship international asset.As Projects Excellence Manager at Marathon, Scott was the principal architect of a complete re-building of Marathon’s project delivery system in terms of people, processes, and governance. This included introducing a Decision Quality approach into capital project planning and decision making, the design and development of a new project delivery system, and leading the case for change and deployment of the new system. Prior to joining Marathon, Scott was with Chevron and Texaco for 24 years. His assignments included management positions in Chevron’s Mid-Continent Business Unit, International Business Development, Saudi Arabian Texaco, and other commercial and technical assignments. He was certified at the Supreme level in Chevron’s capital stewardship process and served on numerous project Decision Review Boards. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University, and a professional certification in the Strategic Decision and Risk Management program at Stanford University.
