AMEE promotes excellence in education of the medical and healthcare professions by encouraging research, developing and delivering courses and aspirational quality standards, managing two publications, developing online information resources, and hosting a significant annual, international, conference.As COO I fulfil a number of roles. Currently my most significant role is developing the organisation to meet the challenges brought on by advances in digital technology in the ‘association’ and ‘education’ sectors.

Short term contract reviewing business processes with the objective of providing a 'roadmap' to deliver improved system integration across key departments in professional services.

Glenalmond College is a boarding school which operates in the regulated independent school sector. The College is set on a campus of 325 acres which includes 64 residential staff properties, numerous historic listed buildings and its own water supply. I was initially a contracting Finance Director and was subsequently appointed COO when the Governing Council decided on a strategy which included the commercialization and improvement of the support functions.Among other developments, I introduced a significant restructure of the support functions, directed the development of an IT strategy which moved the organisation to new platforms for messaging and operational management and successfully managed a stringent budget process in order to secure funding for a significant renovation project.

Maples and Calder (Maples) is an international group of companies and partnerships providing legal, corporate and fund administration services. I moved from the BVI office of a subsidiary to the head office where I secured the role of Group CFO, and, latterly in Hong Kong and the UK, Head of Change Management when I worked closely with the business owners on strategic projects which included; financial partnering on expansion strategy, organisational restructure, project management and corporate Governance.

I inherited two organisations in a state of flux after a recent merger which had stalled. The focus of my role was reinvigorating the merger and implementing the various systems and controls in the context of rapid revenue growth.As CEO of the Corporate Services and Trust company, I managed a team of corporate administrators in a client facing role servicing external clients as well as other Maples and Calder offices. I increased revue significantly by implementing a new market strategy that targeted a higher value client base.Subsequently, I assumed the role of Director of Finance and Operations of both the BVI law firm and Trust company. I completed the systemic and organisational aspects of the stalled merger and developed financial information which led to growth in revenue and profitability of both entities.

Prior to moving abroad, I held a number of permanent and contract roles in top ten Scottish Law Firms with turnover between £15m and £54m.In each case my focus was on improving the effectiveness of the finance functions which included restructuring teams, selecting or developing sophisticated IT practice management systems and improving the working capital position of the firms.

My route to qualification with CIMA started as an Assistant Accountant with Transport Development Group plc . I qualified five years later with the Kinloch Group in the manufacturing sector as Group Accountant.After returning from a year out in the USA and Australia, where I worked with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) as a Business Analyst and Project Manager in their Finance IT team, I took on a role at the Scottish Prison Service commercialising the organisation in anticipation of privatisation. Three and a half years later I started my own nursing and home care business before moving to the legal sector.
