Internal Audit Director for Centrica's Trading and Commodity Risks across UK, Ireland and Europe. Working with senior business and functional leadership to maintain and grow an effective, safe operating environment with supporting controls across the Centrica businesses (including FCA registered entity) and assets. As a member of the Internal Audit leadership team, I contribute to the strategic direction-setting of the function and drive the development of the function through recruitment, on the job challenge and subject matter expertise. Also responsible for seeking best practice and performance improvement opportunities to help drive cross-business improvements and audit plan delivery. Also responsible for Audit Committee and Executive Committee reporting and co-sponsor of data analytics team within Internal Audit.

Operational management role within Centrica Internal Audit team, contributing to team strategy, delivery, recruitment and development. Key responsibilities included:• delivery of an agreed portfolio of audits related to Trading & Commodity Risk, using subject matter expertise to bring challenge and value adding insight.• input into the development and maintenance of the Audit Plan.• manage scheduling and resourcing of the Audit Plan, including external co-source SME resource. • work with business stakeholders and 2nd line assurance functions to scope audits in accordance with identified risks• assure the quality of audit planning, testing and reporting in line with IIA and functional standards• responsibility for raising issues identified during the audit on a timely basis in a clear and concise manner • lead the delivery of particularly complex audits and reviews and bespoke projects to increase efficiency in methodology, data analytics and delivery• coach and develop the audit team and wider members of the auditee teams in relation to risk and controls

Trading expert in a global team with responsibility for the delivery of individual audits and associated reports, providing assurance to the Audit Committee and business management. This role has provided an understanding of business risks within Centrica trading activities and broadened knowledge of auditing, risk management and controls. Recent experience leading audits in UK & Ireland, Europe and North America. Intraday trading and management of load, asset and prop books. Responsible for UK balancing mechanism (BM) strategy and maximising the value of Centrica’s gas, renewable, nuclear and route-to-market power assets. Oversee operational, trading and strategic decision making of junior traders.Key driver of balancing mechanism revenue through understanding and analysis of UK power market. Key responsibilities:• Within day and day ahead trading and optimisation (UK and Europe)• Responsible for UK BM strategy • Optimisation of Centrica power station portfolio to maximise asset value• Optimisation of route-to-market assets • Management of within day power gas book• European operations, Interconnector and cross border flow specialist (NL, DE, FR)• Trading via Interconnectors for NGC balancing requirements

Operating Centrica assets in the most economic and efficient fashion given potential changes in supply, demand and prices within each gas day.Key responsibilities:• Within day and day ahead trading• Supply side operational decision making• Norwegian gas operations• Dispatch and cycling of storage assets• Monitor and secure transportation capability• LNG Operations and trading• Short haul trading

This position was a key enabling role for trading activity and reporting in the new Asset and Load Book set up introduced in Portfolio Optimisation. A particular focus was on model development and writing and rolling out new trading and business processes. In this role I also managed a graduate placement student.
