I was born and raised in Hays, Kansas, where I have lived my entire life. My wife Tawni and I have been married for 28 years and have 2 boys, Rycor and Brayden, and are very proud to see them starting lives on their own.I started with Ellis County EMS in February of 2000, and have dedicated my professional life to providing the best care possible to the patients I encounter. I have expanded my EMS career as an educator throughout the years. I am a Kansas Certified Instructor Coordinator for all disciplines of EMS Education, both Initial and Continuing Education. I hold Instructor Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).Some of my proudest professional accomplishments are; development of a First Responder Program which is responsible for certifying over 100 volunteer and career firefighters in the Ellis County area, founding member of the Ellis County EMS Tactical Medic Group (2003), initial coordination of the Ellis County EMS AED program (placing AEDs in fire department apparatus throughout Ellis County), 10 years of critical care flight/ground operations (EagleMed), presenting at the Kansas Emergency Medical Service Association (KEMSA) Last Blast of Summer Conference, and Region 1 EMS Council Member (Vice Chair, 2 terms). I have also developed and presented several topics of discussion for the Kansas Trauma Council and The University of Kansas Medical Center Area Health Education Center. I have been an Adjunct Faculty member at Fort Hays State University since the fall of 2009, where I am the Lead Instructor for the EMS Education Program.I take great pride in serving the general public by providing a high level of pre-hospital medicine, educating certified providers and new prospects, and speaking publicly about my chosen profession.

Adjunct FacultyFort Hays State University Aug 2009 - Apr 2021In 2009 I was approached by Dr. David Fitzhugh to help develop an EMS Education Program at FHSU. Since that time, the program has steadily grown to include a successful EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) program, taught each Spring Semester, and an AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician) program, which continues to develop. The continued support of FHSU, along with Ellis County EMS, Hays Medical Center, Ellis County Rural Fire, and Hays Fire Department, have all played a pivotal role in providing the area EMS agencies with an eager pool of technicians. I resigned my position when I took the job in Thomas County. -
ParamedicEllis County Ems Feb 2000 - Apr 2021I started my career at Ellis County EMS in February of 2000 as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). I quickly applied for and was accepted into the Paramedic Course at Barton County Community College (Fall 2000). Promoted to Paramedic in January of 2002, I began providing Advanced Life Support at ECEMS. In 2005, I was promoted to Shift Lieutenant, and held the title of Supervisor throughout the later part of 2006 an early 2007 (while our dear friend Wendell Keller fought and subsequently lost his battle with cancer). I returned to the rank of Shift Lieutenant, once the position was permanently filled, by a senior Lieutenant. In November of 2015, I resigned my full-time position with ECEMS, for the position in Norton County. After my departure from EagleMed in October of 2017, I returned to the full time roster at ECEMS in November 2017, and was truly grateful to be back “home”. -
ParamedicMed-Trans Corporation Aug 2007 - Oct 2017Great Bend, KansasIn 2007, I had the opportunity to fly with the premier air medical transport service in the mid-west, EagleMed! I had the privilege of flying with some of the best healthcare providers and pilots in the business. For 4 years, I flew as part of EM24 crew out of Goodland, Kansas, on a Beechcraft King Air C90 fixed wing aircraft. This base serves the northwest Kansas, southwest Nebraska, and eastern Colorado areas, and is one of the largest producers in the company. Although the crew has changed a bit, these folks bring the very best in patient care to those in time of need. In 2012, I was offered a chance to broaden my career in the Marketing Department. I served for two years as the Northwest Kansas Area Marketing Representative. With this endeavor, I was able to see all the same great people in the hospitals that we served, along with making new contacts with hospital administration and many members of the communities. In 2013, a new opportunity presented itself, with the implementation of EagleMed's first Critical Care Ground Unit in Great Bend, Kansas. I was honored to work with some of the best technicians and community leaders to get this project in full stride. In 2016, I returned to the medical side as a Paramedic at EM794, stationed at Great Bend Airport, which serves the surrounding communities of central Kansas with state of the art equipment and highly trained crews, able to provide advanced, progressive care to the patients. In the summer of 2016, EagleMed was acquired by Med-Trans Corporation. At this point, EagleMed retains its brand name, as they transition to the Med-Trans way of life. As a provider of high quality, cutting edge critical care transport, I was honored to be part of the Med-Trans family. -
