Coordinated public process associated with development proposals, particularly through Seattle's Design Review program. Helped applicants with a complex range of regulations, including the Land Use Code, the State Environmental Policy Act, the Shoreline Management Act, and the City's Environmentally Critical Areas ordinance. Represented the Director in the update to Major Institution Master Plan for Seattle Children's Hospital. Engaged with complex reviews, including rezones and other departmental priorities. Initiated a neighborhood plan update and recruited citizen leadership. Participated in efforts to improve review processes, and to design readily achievable measures to improve information access and training. Served three years out-of-class as senior planner. Organized and implemented peer trainings for land use staff.

Conducted a professional project in participatory photography, an innovative method for citizen involvement in the Downtown Strategic Plan. Coordinated Kirkland's community lecture series, drawing nationally recognized experts to address planning issues in a popular public forum. Provided research assistance in areas such as "1% for the Arts", Census 2000, Growth Management Act benchmarks report, impact fee analyses, small lot residential treatment, and land use verifications.

Studied fiscal and economic impacts of alternative growth patterns in a rapidly developing rural county. Documented the pace and scale of land division over the previous five years, analyzed implications for planning. Constructed a database to document and monitor subdivision exemptions. Mapped a potential "urban growth area" and estimated costs associated with infrastructure development.

Initiated watershed management project for the Río Siquirres, a 3,000-acre reserve that supplies drinking water to a town of 15,000. Recruited, organized, and advised local development organization, guided work of watershed commission linking government agencies and local leaders. Trained teachers in eight rural schools in dynamic environmental education methods, jointly planned and implemented lessons, yearlong projects, and field trips. Engaged 25 small-scale producers in sustainable agriculture techniques, provided substantial follow-up.

Coordinated work of three community organizations in eastern Montana, concentrating on waste management and family farm issues. Organized NPRC's Agricultural Task Force in national farm and trade policy work. Prepared NPRC leaders for public presentations and meetings with decision-makers. Raised funds through solicitations and events. Recruited new members and instilled leadership skills through participation and involvement.
