Scott Shields comes from a long line of miners and mining engineers. Scott is a fifth generation Arizona miner and began his career as a surveyor in the Mine Engineering Department of the Phelps Dodge Mining Company, Morenci Operations Mine. He was promoted to Sr. Surveyor and helped lead the way for GPS integration in civilian industry. In order to broaden his skill set, he transferred to the Process Technology Center in Safford, Arizona. He developed skills in sampling and leach modeling and quickly became a Senior Research Technician in the Bio Development group aiding in the development of Bacterial augmentation in secondary sulfide leach operations. His strong leadership, motivational and project construction skills were utilized as Construction and Site Supervisor for advanced technology projects, including bench scale and pilot plant Bacterial Augmentation and Electro-winning experimentation. Scott was then requested by FMI’s Mine Technology Group to serve as the Autonomous Mining Programs Site Coordinator for the Safford-based San Juan Experimental Mine. He assumed site responsibility for the safe operation and continuing development of the future mining team, with noted recognition for his focus on safety, quality and championing next generation technology advancement. While at Freeport McMoran, Scott has served as Sr Operations Supervisor, Sr Engineer in Short Range Shovel Planning, Stockpile Planning, Agile Product Owner in Cathode Quality improvement, and Operations Superintendent in both Loading and Haulage. While attaining his B.S. in Mining Engineering, Scott served as the site coordinator, FMI Liaison and Mine Engineer, Associate for the San Xavier Mining Laboratory owned and operated by the University of Arizona. Scott joined P&H Mining in 2011 as Manager - Mining Application Engineering Surface Mining, was promoted to US South-Mesa Commercial Manager, and served as Director of Global Application Engineering and Continuous Improvement during the Komatsu Integration. In 2021 Scott joined Nevada Gold Mines as Supply Chain operations manager and became Head of Department in 2022. Most recently Scott accepted a new role as VP and GM of remanufacturing & digital solutions for Road Machinery LLC in Phoenix Arizona.
