Serve as CLIA Director and fulfill all High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director responsibilities as described in 42 CFR 493. Oversee planning, negotiating, organizing, staffing, directing, and evaluating the services of the State Laboratory of Public Health. Coordinate a multi-service laboratory program that analyzes clinical and environmental specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and/or monitoring of individual, community, or environmental health problems. Direct and coordinate the activities of a large technical staff in areas of clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry, environmental sciences, newborn screening, virology/serology, emergency laboratory preparedness and response, and laboratory improvement to ensure successful delivery of laboratory services. Maintain standards of quality in the performance of a variety of laboratory analyses; determine policies, plans, and methodologies for implementation in the laboratory; and set priorities for laboratory work. Serve as liaison with professional contacts in the scientific/academic communities and acts as chief spokesperson for the laboratory.
