I led a team of 36 professional communicators at the Bonneville Power Administration with expertise in the areas of communications strategy and counsel, media relations, issues management, employee communications and graphics, consumer marketing, policy writing and public engagement. Working with my team, we completely revamped and restructured the department into an internal “agency” with my vision that led to better client service, award-winning work, and happier employees. As an integrated communications team, we worked together with our internal clients and external stakeholders to further the mission of BPA and its unique role as a clean energy provider to Pacific Northwest communities.

Managed BPA's Long-Term Power Planning Team, which conducts various long-term forecasts and studies of electric utility retail loads, obligations, resource generation, maintenance and reserves. Using these forecasts, we developed monthly, long term, surplus/deficit energy analysis for the Pacific Northwest region, and the Federal System. Our goals were to: 1) provide proper data and analyses in a timely manner to the internal and external organizations we support and 2) to be actively engaged in resource planning forums involving federal and regional generating resources so that we could continue to provide quality work that accurately projects the always-changing Northwest energy landscape.

I represented the interests of the United States Entity (which is the Bonneville Power Administration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) on the implementation of the 1964 Columbia River Treaty with the BC Province and BC Hydro of Canada (the Canadian Entity). I also played a key role in the launch of a U.S. effort to modernize this historic international energy and water management agreement.

I led strategy development for BPA's future-focused initiatives in the Corporate Strategy division, which included developing detailed scenario analysis and business competitive intelligence.

I conducted media relations and community relations work for BPA's Public Affairs team. As the lead spokesman for the agency, I developed and deployed effective media relations strategies and managed complex issues spanning the full array of wholesale hydropower production and delivery, along with corporate issues.

I conducted lead spokesman and CEO positioning duties during the company's ownership crisis, led the communications efforts for the Port Westward power plant and 2002 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) efforts, was a central player on the planned implosion of the Trojan nuclear power plant as well as played a key role in the communications effort around PGE's 2006 NYSE listing and launch as an independent company.
