Scott E. Stevens was born and raised in Longview, Texas. He is a sixth generation Texan. Scott attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and received his B.A. in 1991. After graduating from college, Scott attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. He received his J.D. in 1994. Scott also has an L.L.M. degree in Business Transactions from the University of Alabama School of Law.After completing law school, Scott returned to Longview and went to work at Harbour, Smith, Harris & Merritt, P.C., where he primarily handled litigation matters for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. During that time, Scott tried over 30 jury trials to verdict, both in state and federal court.In 2004, Scott opened his own law firm in Longview, Texas. He represented large and small corporations in a variety of litigation matters, including complex litigation matters, intellectual property matters, contract disputes, insurance claims and employment issues.On November 6, 2018, Scott was elected as a Justice on the 6th Court of Appeals in Texarkana, Texas. On November 8, 2022, Scott was elected as the Chief Justice on the 6th Court of Appeals. Scott was recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer (a Thomson Reuters service) from 2009 to 2018. He is also AV Rated by LexisNexis Martindale Hubbell.Scott is a member of the State Bar of Texas, a Senior Life Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a Judicial Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Charter Member of the Hon. T. John Ward American Inn of Court. He is also a member and Endowment Fund Scholar of the Texas Bar College. Scott is married to Lainey Godsey Stevens, and is the proud parent of two children. He attends the Trinity Episcopal Church. He has served on several boards in Longview. Scott is a graduate of Leadership Texarkana and a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Wilbur Smith Rotary in Texarkana, Texas.Specialties: Scott is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2002.
