The constant throughout my career has been problem-solving. The types of problems have grown more complex, the methods of tackling them have expanded, and the solutions are always a mixture of science, art, and collaborative teamwork. Leading teams and directing activities across functions to transform a process, technology, or operating model from "how it has always been done" into delivering positive results for the future is challenging. To do so requires understanding the business, technology awareness, a trusted network, negotiation, flexibility, hiring the right team, and sometimes rolling up my sleeves and finishing the last pieces. When it happens, the rewards are tremendous. I am grateful to have the opportunity to see an idea from conception all the way through to happy adopters, increased productivity, 100% regulatory compliance, and a beneficial culture shift. The last few years have focused on enablement for technology initiatives and process improvement for TIAA Financial Services. With a team of 25, we have addressed the changing landscape and requirements that advisors are operating in and the technology solutions available. I previously worked on multiple regulatory changes and incorporated process improvement initiatives to increase productivity and decrease risk. Balancing the requirements, wants, and abilities of numerous stakeholders while delivering results was a significant part of these roles. Earlier in my career at Bank of America and at PWC, I learned and gained experience with many of the skills I continue to hone and share to this day. These opportunities saw me grow from being a team member implementing change to leading a portion of a project to sponsoring a project and getting buy-in on its benefit. My career taking this path helps me be aware of how ventures can get tripped up, coach team members to achieve their next level, recognize the opportunity of diverse backgrounds when hiring, and how roadblocks almost always have a solution.
