About Scott Waddell

I’ve always had a passion for solving complex problems, but I’ve never liked to do it the “normal” way. For 18 years, I got a strong foundation in rigorous discipline as an Officer in the Air National Guard, while simultaneously pursuing my passion for technology in electrical engineering. Transitioning to the software development process in 2003 was a natural evolution for me. The digital product space is still the Wild West of technology, a place you can imagine an idea, prototype it quickly and cheaply, and bring it to market on your own (or at least with a small, tight team). There’s an ethos you have to follow, sure, but how you do it isn’t as important as that you get it done. Currently, I’m CIO of Boncom, a digital company I helped build from the ground up, and an author and creator of the Rebellious Learning brand. I’m a huge advocate for renegade product makers out to change the world.

I joined Brandon Burton in 2010 to help fulfill a vision of a communications solution for multi-disciplinary creative innovators. For the past 10+ years we’ve built out a robust agency with expertise in product development, analytics, design, media production, social media and advertising. As I’ve settled into my role of CTO at Bonneville Communications Corp. (BCC) since 2018, I’ve managed relationships with partners and vendors and have also had the satisfaction of overseeing some pretty great projects. Highlights include: • Created an organization business model and defined billing rates, commissions and profit margin as the company was being formed • Developed a detailed plan for the organization’s policies and procedures • Lead and directed complete network and system architecture upgrade • Vetted and implemented a company-wide accounting system • Established and controlled an information technology budgetFrom 2007 to 2009 I served as Senior Systems Administrator at Boncom, where I: • Maintained daily operation of networks and information systems for the agency • Provided support and backup to the Director of Information Technology • Help evaluate, implement and document technical solutions agency-wide

    Publicntp Nov 2016 - Present

PublicNTP is a non-profit company that believes in the necessity of time and widespread access to it for the world. In first-world countries, it is easy to take synchronized time for granted. But one of the first hurdles of global business and international infrastructure is keeping time straight across thousands of miles with hundreds of clients in dozens of countries. It disrupts authentication, cell networks, and cloud computing among many other digital tasks. Our mission is to establish a future where the global public has no-cost access to atomic clock-grade accuracy in their time networks.
  • Air National Guard
    Military Intelligence Officer (Captain)
Air National Guard Jan 1999 - Jan 2017
    Randolph Afb, Tx, Us
As a Military Intelligence Officer in the Air National Guard, I first cultivated my appreciation and admiration for leadership as a skill that can be cultivated. To this day, I’m obsessed with management theory and am constantly working to refine leadership and followership archetypes. In fact, my experience in the Air National Guard was probably the first inspiration for the book I co-authored with Justin Jones, Got Vision? How to Attract Top Talent. While serving six years of fulltime active duty (along with 12 years part-time or inactive duty while I worked full-time in technology) as a Military Intelligence Officer, the following were my areas of expertise and authority: • Managed the wing’s classified materials and equipment • Briefed air crews and Wing Commander of current intelligence • Managed squadron’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Training Program • Responsible for the training and management of all enlisted intelligence personnel • Required TS/SCI security clearance

As part of a network comprised of 27 regionally aligned, globally networked sites, I oversaw the Utah region’s operation. Attributes and responsibilities of this role included: • Provided leadership, training and support to system operators • Developed automated system administration platform • Required TS/SCI security clearance

I joined CenturyLink when it was Qwest Wireless back in 2000 as a Senior RF Engineer. In 2003 I was promoted to Senior Software Engineer. This was a major shift for me and the beginning of the rest of my career in technology. While at Qwest I created several software products and a call-quality testing program with an accompanying methodology. This was the moment that showed me my destiny in the IT space. In this role I fulfilled the following: • Developed server-monitoring services and web front ends • Developed and implemented xDSL hardware-querying web service for Quest system technicians • Developed and optimized technician service ordering processing system • Managed network-testing group • Provided object-oriented design, programming and implementation of wireless testing service • Processed test data for monthly comprehensive wireless system review • Performed capacity planning and optimized based on test data
