About Scott Wei Ting Chen, P.Eng., Ph.D.
Scott received his Bachelor of Applied Science with honour at Simon Fraser University in 2007, with a specialization in microcontroller- and FPGA-based embedded system design, and received his Ph.D. degree in 2015 at University of Waterloo with the research focus of transdermal vapour biomedical sensors with specialized polymeric sensing materials. He’s continued as an industry-supported MITAC post-doctoral fellow until the end of 2017. Biomarkers) are captured for bodily condition monitoring.The research topic covers multiple fields of expertise, including cleanroom flexible material fabrication process development, designs of multi-pole RF resonant structures for RF sensor array, knowledge of sorbent polymeric sensing materials, and the chemical characteristics of the biomarkers of interest. My novel works on flexible materials, resonant sensor arrays, and the novel Coupling Matrix Readout Extraction (CMRE) technique are recognized by international academic societies through various conferences, and will be published on the journal magazines of IEEE Microwave Theories and Techniques and Sensors and Actuators.July 2009 – Present Product Development Consultation for Sober Steering SensorAs the appointed research assistance from CIRFE group to Sober Steering for the collaborative sensor system development project, I have dedicated a 5 year effort in providing continuous engineering consultations and product developments on the embedded DUI detection system from Sober Steering with my embedded system design skills. The new design is implemented in VHDL, which offers a superior portability and expandability than the vintage PAL-equation design; the new design has also resolved a critical timing problem that has adversely affected the product performance since 2004.
