Tri-Valley CAREs stops nuclear weapons where they start. We watchdog the nuclear weapons complex and its Livermore Lab, one of two locations that develops all US nuclear bombs and warheads. Nuclear weapons pose one of the great social, economic, and ecological challenges of our time. We work toward their global abolition.

• Develop and coordinate strategic public awareness campaigns to reduce and abolish nuclear weapons • Develop and execute legal strategy to challenge the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Complex • Manage the organization’s right-to-know activities under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and California Public Records Act which includes prevailing in numerous FOIA cases• Conduct dozens of policy meetings with congressional and agency officials in Washington, DC, serve as liaison to the Alliance for Nuclear Accountability as a committee member• Conduct extensive media activities, including drafting newsletter articles, press releases, public speaking engagements, television interviews, and frequent radio interviews• Represent Tri-Valley CAREs in administrative review process before the Department of Energy and other state and federal agencies, including drafting extensive comment letters and oral advocacy• Draft appellate briefs and supplementary documents submitted to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals• Monitor environmental compliance of Lawrence Livermore National Lab with the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act• Organize community events, fundraising events, and prepare grant proposals• Recruit and manage summer legal interns• Maintain and develop the organization’s website

• Represented plaintiffs in complex class action cases from inception to completion in the areas of anti-trust, breach of fiduciary duties, consumer protection, securities fraud and employment discrimination• Performed extensive legal research and preparation of pre-trial documents including complaints, oppositions to 12(b)6 motions, affidavits and correspondence with the court, clients, co-counsel and opposing counsel• Propounded and responded to discovery, developed document review strategy, managed document production and drafted deposition outlines• Coordinated hearing preparation and argued motions on discovery matters and appellate proceedings • Participated in settlement negotiations and mediation proceedings• Drafted class certification documents, class notice, and settlement agreements
