• While working with the IRS, the largest tax firm in the U.S., I drafted:
• pre-trial memoranda involving tax penalties under § 7122,
• memoranda in support of federal tax liens and excess proceeds referrals to the DOJ,
• memoranda concerning alter ego and nominee doctrines for collection efforts,
• answers to petitions to the Tax Court, including Innocent Spouse Petitions,
• stipulation of facts, and

• Our efforts focused on the patent exhaustion doctrine and recent efforts by patentees to draft contracts to avoid exhaustion when licensing with other corporations. As a result I:
• researched patent license agreements generally and cases interpreting these agreements;
• researched patent infringment defenses generally, including patent exhaustion, implied licenses, patent misuse, and repair vs. infringing copying; and
• wrote memoranda concerning patent exhaustion for computer hardware since the LG-Quanta rulings and Monsanto Soybean licensing.

Salt Lake City, UT

• As an extern with the Honorable Chief Judge Thurman, I:
• draftproposed bench memos and decisions, many of which were incorporated into final documents;
• researched the effect of personal guarantees on a businesses bankruptcy;
• researched and wrote on various issues in Chapter 13 plans including trustee treatment of tax refund treatments in various jurisdictions and retirement savings contributions post-petition;
• reviewed and summarized various motions, like motions for relief from stay and § 523 exceptions to discharge, for Judge Thurman; and
• spent several hours sitting in Chapter 13 confirmations, hearing objections to debtor plans and responses by some of the best debtors' attorneys in Utah.

Cincinnati, OH

• While clerking I:
• drafted and responded to discovery demands;
• drafted respondent appellate briefs for criminal convictions;
• supplied research for motions to dismiss; and
• worked up a proposed entry of judgment for an emminent domain case. I also had my first taste of chicken and waffles, Cincinnati-style chili, and courtroom litigation.

• While a personal banker, I:
• assisted customers in account reconciliation (fancy words for balancing checkbooks);
• helped customers secure credit for various borrowing opportunities;
• opened and maintained customer accounts;
• originated wire transfers; and
• assisted commercial lenders in their loan reviews.

Brussels, Belgium

I journeyed across the pond to work with Kathy Sinnott, MEP of Ireland. I handled issues dealing with constituent complaints against the EU, environmental concerns over the sustainability of current logging practices across the EU, and created voting lists based on Ms. Sinnott's constituents' interests. I also researched and wrote rebuttals to oppositional.
