Working at a Title I school is difficult but rewarding. As a Language Arts teacher, I was able to help raise the reading scores of over a hundred students, introduce them to new opportunities for their futures, expose them to new technology and literature, and motivate them to do their best in and out of the classroom. As a new teacher, I decided to jump in and lead students in things that they love. Although I was teaching Language Arts, I decided to help coach the Robotics Club in which students planned and competed in competition that involved everything from project creation to robot programming to team skits. We also took them on a field trip to Georgia Power so they could see first hand how technology, science, and mathematics were being used to make our lives better.With a large number of students who play soccer on a regular basis (and energy to spare), I started an after school soccer club where we trained as a team and competed against one another. The club's first month brought out about 20 students after school, and it is sure to be an avenue for students to learn and grow in their abilities for years. Show less

I taught SC Language and Writing standards to 8th grade students and worked with the wonderful faculty and staff at Belton Middle School. I also coached soccer at BHP high school during my two years in Belton.

Fresh out of college, I wanted to make a difference, and John Knox PC gave me the opportunity as the Director of Youth and Young Adults. I was able to jump in and help revive a youth group, lead a building project for a new youth center, and rally volunteers to support the program. I loved my time with students at John Knox PC so much, I decided to go back to school so I could become a full-time teacher and coach.

In college I volunteered with youth at Grace. I helped disciple a group of high school boys. This experience turned into an internship then a staff residency, which allowed me the opportunity to help start a new church campus. My time at Grace included priceless experiences like leadership training from executives, CEOs, and financial advisers; mission trips to impoverished communities; and opportunities to practice leadership skills learned from respected mentors.
