Assumed the leadership of a software product development organization that had been struggling for 2 years to get a product into the market. I assembled and coached the team, and had a new product ready for market introduction within six months of kick-off. Worked closely with customers and internal stakeholders to surface requirements and validate designs and feature implementations. A hands-on manager, I served in many roles including product design, customer analysis, product architecture, implementation lead, quality control, and staff coach. I worked closely with founders not only on product development, but also on corporate culture and character matters including methodology, cross-functioning, cooperation, coordination, communication, and accountability. Responsibility for overall product character and interaction design. Performed user testing. Led the team toward a deeper understanding of Service-Oriented and Distributed Systems Architecture principles and implementation concerns. Responsible for six direct reports and two off-line staffers, including product development and operations functions. Responsible for technical recruiting and hiring, and selection of contractors. Designed team workflows and processes. Used Agile and Lean process to coordinate team and individual work. Transitioned proprietary intellectual property to open source, and owned the open source release pipeline. Reported to the EVP over product development (founder).

Established and led an Austin-based remote branch of a team operating in San Antonio and Bangalore, India. This new team would be focused on new and forward development. I spearheaded a reengineering and modernization initiative of ~20 inter-connected legacy applications that form the business-critical engine of Rackspace's global data center automation and records systems. I led the drive to Service-Oriented Architecture and improvements in response time to the business, and coached a team of 10 developers and operations staff toward understandings of design principles, methodology, process, quality, and productivity. I established architectural guidelines and development goals for engineering sustainability. Working with the company's legal staff and IP committee, I transitioned proprietary tools to open source.
