That’s just how the vision for VideoRay came about more than 16 years ago.After literally parachuting down to attend a wedding at the North Pole, I began to discuss the status of micro-ROV technology with a close friend. This ultimately led to a licensing agreement with a Canadian firm that in turn led to the launch of VideoRay in 1999 and its first product shortly thereafter.Since that time we’ve developed micro-ROVs and sold more units than any other underwater ROV company. Our equipment is used in a variety of applications from oil & gas to search and recovery. None of this would have been possible without an organization that functions as a cohesive team dedicated to a common mission.My brothers and I after finishing college and getting experience at different companies went on to found Bentley Systems, Inc. and started its growth to one of the largest privately held software companies in the country. As employee number 2 I played a key role in the launch of Bentley Systems, a company that broke new ground by producing low cost, high quality PC based CAD software – which will go public in October 2015.That collaboration ultimately led to me to start VideoRay and a collaboration with customers that’s positioned VideoRay as the undisputed leader in the micro ROV industry today.

After almost seven years in the barn, VideoRay grew too large for its facility prompting the company’s addition of a renovated building in downtown Pottstown in 2012.VideoRay’s technology has come a long way from the original license products in 1999. We now are the key innovator in the industry in every major technology – design flexibility, power, depth rating, software, reliability, remote operator capabilities, and such. We also continue to be the highest unit volume producer of underwater robots in the world.

I joined the company in 1985 and quickly became a key contributor to the company’s growth over the next 15 years as it developed innovative products used in Computer Aided Design (CAD).In 1985 we introduced the commercial version of PseudoStation which allowed users of Intergraph's VAX systems to use low-cost graphics terminals to view and modify the designs on their Intergraph IGDS installations. This greatly expanded access to such designs, which could otherwise be accessed only through very expensive special purpose workstations. The experience convinced us that there was a ready market for a stand-alone personal computer-based CAD system compatible with the Intergraph CAD file format. As a solution we developed MicroStation Version 1 and launched it in 1986. The system allowed users to download files directly from their VAX system to their IBM PCs for further editing and plotting. After more than 30 years of successful operations Bentley Systems is now poised for its first IPO later this year. Its products now include offshore structural analysis and design software. -
