Recently responsible for overseeing a portfolio of $30 million dollars in mental health programs and services for New York City public schools, I have facilitated the expansion in NYC by increasing access to mental health services, and promoting consultation, treatment, and support to 1.2 million children and families across the 1,800 schools.I have pioneered programs, models and concepts that have built capacity for schools and communities to address the mental health issues of youth. These prevention and treatment strategies includes a public health approach to Community School Mental Health, the first School Mental Health Consultant Program, Screening The At Risk Student (STARS) for school nurses, and one of the first Sibling Programs for young people with medically fragile brothers and sisters in the country. Never without my clinical background as a psychoanalytic-psychotherapist, I have advanced innovative ways of integrating a clinical lens to support staff by creating unique concepts: The School As Client™, Real Time vs. School Time ™, The Imaginary Student ™. Each of these focuses on specific collaborative techniques and skills for positive outcomes when confronted by complex systems. My passion has taken me around the country with close to 100 presentations and meetings with government officials spanning the globe including youth, education and universities, and other public entities looking for guidance on strategies connecting treatment and resources in their educational systems. It has and will always be my aim of leaving the world a little better than when I began. This is what I do.
