When I first started with Butterfly, they were a small residential voice over IP service provider. One of my most memorable achievements during my time at Butterfly was being directly involved in the planning and implementation of a Cisco-based service provider network that would be used to provide ADSL and VDSL internet service. This was all in preparation for a push into the business sector where we would be offering a hosted voice over IP service bundled with our internet service. This allowed us to provide end-to-end quality of service ensuring excellent call quality, which is a must for business.While wearing the software engineer hat, I developed a number of custom applications that were used in house. An example is a system that allowed management and monitoring of remote endpoints such as an IP phone or modem. This was developed around specifications provided by our hardware vendors or a device API if one was available. This allowed the company to provide a high level of support by giving technicians the ability to directly interact with the remote endpoint for troubleshooting and configuration purposes.
