Scott Philp has practiced as a registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand assisting and working with local, international and multi-national clients to develop, capture, manage and defend international IP portfolios since 2001. In that time Scott has accrued a wealth of experience drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications across a wide range of technology areas from heavy machinery and robotics to foodstuff production, and from recycling systems and waste management to biomedical devices and lifestyle products. He has extensive experience in the fields of manufacturing and mining engineering including hard rock cutting, drilling technologies and mine monitoring systems. He has acted for clients in a number of patent opposition proceedings before the Australian and New Zealand Patent Offices.As a mechanical engineer, Scott has a deep comprehension of a broad range of technical areas from general mechanics and systems control to fluid dynamics and biomedical engineering. He graduated from Sydney University with honours and wrote his final thesis on dynamic simulation and engineering design. Scott’s engineering training and intellectual property experience is uniquely balanced by his commerce degree and studies in accounting, finance and computer science which underscore an appreciation for commercial and financial outcomes.Scott is passionate about developing commercially relevant IP strategies to deliver robust Intellectual Property protection. He enjoys a hands on approach, working closely with clients throughout the cycle of innovation to assist achieving the best commercial outcomes.
