The Committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners on policies that will promote the development of affordable housing opportunities for the residents of Calvert County.

The Building Board reviews and recommends changes, additions, or deletions to the Building Code, rules and regulations, setting of fees, and such other requirements they deem necessary for public safety, health, and general welfare. The Board also approves building contractors' license applications and reviews contractors' problems.

The Commission provides recommendations to the Department of Planning and Zoning, Planning Commission, and Board of County Commissioners on matters that affect the environment (air, land, and water) in Calvert County. As approved by the BOCC, the goals of the Commission are to: reduce nutrient pollution from septic systems, encourage environmentally sensitive watershed management practices, develop regulations for forest replacement outside the Critical Area and for the protection of large tracts of contiguous forests, make recommendations for directing growth to Town Centers, encourage energy and water conservation, and encourage Green Buildings and improved storm water management practices.
