I am a teacher, leader and writer who enjoys heading up a classroom full of young adults and hearing them repeat back our mantra for why we study history: to learn about the past and how it affects the present so we can change the future. While teaching is its own reward because I get to talk about cool historical events and why they matter all day long, I'm looking forward to a day when I can branch out to a broader audience. I enjoy researching, building teams and developing/editing all types of curriculum - from classroom history to leadership development and beyond. I think I have the skills and knowledge built up to handle a few different kinds of positions with a little bit of training, and truly believe I can add value to any organization.I also would really like to work on finishing some of my own writing projects on the side. Many people have trouble seeing beyond the words "teacher" or "pastor" - often oversimplifying to boil down to the parts they see. I always tell people that the mark of an expert is that they make their job look easy! So much of my time as pastor was spent as a project manager - designing programming involving anything from a staff of 30 to hundreds of volunteers, depending on the week. Leading a Board of Directors through decision-making while we constructed a $5.2 million facility. Managing large-scale budgets and fundraising to supplement them. It's where I found that I was also really good at training adults as I began to do seminars encouraging other churches to try alternate methods to recruit and retain membership that we had been successful with. I got better at the things people didn't see so that what they did see kept them coming back. There was fun and challenge in those responsibilities.
