About Scott Harlum

As President and Director of the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA), I advocate for the rights, health, and well-being of individuals living with HIV. I draw on over 30 years of professional experience in governance, public policy, strategy, communications, media, and public relations. In my role as Director of Health Equity Matters, Australia’s leading organization for policy expertise and support in the community HIV response, I utilize my skills in advocacy, strategy, public relations, and finance to enhance awareness and understanding of HIV prevention, education, and research. As someone with lived experience of HIV, chronic kidney disease, and long-term dialysis (14+ years) followed by two renal transplants, I am dedicated to applying the lessons learned from our 40-year journey with HIV to other health challenges. For all it has taken from us, I believe HIV should leave a lasting legacy—one that ensures the transfer of skills, knowledge, and frameworks developed through our HIV response benefits health consumers across all disease contexts.
