Award-winning television correspondent with 20 years of experience from around the world, Scott Heidler joined the WESH 2/NBC news team in 2021. Prior to moving to the Space Coast to serve as Bureau Chief and Reporter, Scott was based in Bangkok covering the major stories across Asia.For 10 years Scott also served as communications leader for international organizations and was the creative head/manager for award-winning strategic communication plans inside organizations and at agencies.Scott’s tracked historic events from early China reporting on the emergence of COVID-19 to the last NASA Space Shuttle launch to the amazing story of the Thai boys’ soccer team cave rescue. He also covered conflicts in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories/Israel, Ukraine and Iraq.Before moving to WESH 2/NBC, Scott was a foreign correspondent with Al Jazeera English (AJE) for eleven years. He covered stories across Asia and beyond. He was the first international TV correspondent at the Ukrainian crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight 17 and won First Prize National Headliner Award for his work there. Scott has closely tracked the plight of the Rohingya in Myanmar, exposing the many sides of this complex issue. His reporting on the story earned him a 2019 New York Festivals Bronze Medal. In 2020 he won another New York Festivals Bronze Medal for his reporting on civil unrest in Hong Kong. Scott has a deep knowledge of China through his ten assignments while living in the region. He reported the announcement of Xi Jinping becoming president and has also covered elections and leadership changes in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan and Myanmar.From 2010 to 2012 he was an AJE New York-based correspondent covering the United Nations, the US and overseas assignments in the Middle East. Before that, from 2002 to 2010, Scott was with Fox News Channel based in the Middle East and South Asia; Afghanistan/Pakistan and Jerusalem, with extensive time in Iraq. Just before joining AJE, he was the Fox News Channel correspondent/bureau chief in Islamabad covering Pakistan and Afghanistan.He co-authored "Women of Courage, Intimate Stories from Afghanistan" winning Editor’s Choice non-fiction book of the year by ForeWard Magazine in 2007 and a Bronze Medal in the 2008 Independent Publishers Awards. The book profiles fifty Afghan women who fought for change in the early years after the Taliban was forced from power. A version of the book was part of the curriculum in high schools across Afghanistan.
