Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States

Research fellowship concerned with the modelling, design, and optimisation of various transformer-coupled plasma sources with industrial and aerospace concerns. Specific projects include the modelling of a novel low-field toroidal plasma source alongside numerous capacitively coupled atmospheric plasma sources for plasma electrolysis and nanoparticle fabrication. Responsibilities include: code development, investigation of fundamental plasma processes, interaction with industrial sponsors, supervision of graduate students, the writing and presentation of research papers, and the management of research program reviews.

Mar 2022 - Mar 2024

Eurofusion Research Fellow

Seville, Andalusia, Spain

A two year fellowship studying the kinetic impacts on the plasma response to externally applied magnetic perturbations in the ASDEX-Upgrade fusion device. Modifications made to the 3D non-linear hybrid Kinetic-MHD 'MEGA' framework enabled spatio-temporally varying resistivity, viscosity, and diffusivity, previously not captured within the model.

Sep 2021 - Feb 2022

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Seville, Spain

I served as the primary plasma equilibrium design specialist within the Plasma Science and Fusion Technology (PSFT) group of the Faculty of Atomic, Nuclear and Molecular physics at the University of Seville. My primary role entailed the development of state-of-the-art 3D hybrid kinetic-MHD numerical models for fusion plasmas, specifically focusing on the plasma response to fast-ion induced Alfven modes. I also employed these models to optimise fast-ion generation in high-power next generation plasma propulsion sources, bridging the gap between the two communities. Alongside these main roles, I proposed, developed, and lead collaborative projects with other research groups and industrial partners, manage grant proposals to secure finances for future projects, and represented the PSFT group at international conferences. Finally, I organised and managed both BSc and MSc projects, and assisted in the supervision of PhD students.

Feb 2020 - Sep 2021

Postdoctoral Researcher

York, United Kingdom

Continuation of my PhD research, developing experimentally validated fluid and kinetic numerical models to investigate the electron, ion and neutral particle heating in low-pressure, non-thermal plasmas. Employment of optical emission spectroscopic methods with a specific focus on high-speed imaging and phase-resolved optical emission spectroscopy (PROES) of steady state and pulsed plasma sources. Electrostatic probes (Langmuir and retarding field energy analysers) were employed on associated projects.Independent research and collaborative projects with national and international partners including three industrial impact award grants coordinated between the University of York and industries involved in plasma assisted surface modification.Supervision of five final year MSc. research students, involving creation of research projects and assistance in publication of results in peer-reviewed journals.
