I have built my career partnering with founders and working hand-in-hand to help take their businesses to the next level of growth. From boot-strapped startups to a publicly traded company, I’ve executed on everything from mapping out and executing strategic plans to overseeing financial audits and making sure payroll clears. I have a track record of delivering results and helping creative founders elevate their businesses, and am currently working as a Contract COO / CFO with companies looking to bring their company to the next level. Most recently, I was Chief Operating Officer of The Points Guy, one of the largest travel and credit card sites on the web, reaching 10 million people a month. As COO, I oversaw revenue & partnerships, technology & product, marketing, and data & analytics. I was also was the primary liaison with publicly-traded corporate parent Bankrate for finance, people operations, office operations, and more. During my time at The Points Guy, we more than doubled both unique visitors and profit.Prior to The Points Guy, I was Chief Operating Officer for leading digital publisher Gawker Media, which published sites including Gizmodo, Lifehacker, Deadspin, and Jezebel to over 100 million readers each month. I joined the company in 2005 and helped it grow from a small group of bloggers to an internationally known and widely influential modern media company. As COO, I oversaw Global Operations, including finance, financial planning & analysis, corporate legal, people & culture, facilities, and special projects. During my tenure, Gawker was the rare bootstrapped non-VC funded digital media company with over $25 million of operating income in five years.I was also Business Lead for music discovery site The Hype Machine, overseeing finance, legal, operations and monetization efforts.

Chief Operating OfficerThe Points Guy Jan 2016 - Feb 2018New York, NyI partnered with Brian (Founder & CEO as well as The Points Guy himself) as COO to bring TPG from a points & miles blog to the lifestyle media brand it remains today, helping over 10 million readers a month maximize their travel. I oversaw revenue & partnerships, technology & product, marketing, data & analytics, and also was the primary liaison with the publicly-traded corporate parent company for finance, people operations, office operations, and more. We accomplished a ton in two years, but some highlights include: • Led the team that brought the Chase Sapphire Reserve to market. Long before its Bloomberg Businessweek cover story, Chase offered TPG the exclusive on announcing and marketing the Reserve in the affiliate channel. TPG acts as a full-service agency and we pulled out all the stops, ranging from editorial explaining the card’s value to paid marketing. The results surpassed all expectations, and more importantly, it was a lot of fun.• Oversaw a complete redesign & rebuild of the aging WordPress infrastructure, website, and brand identity. The new site is notably faster, fully responsive, and even automated some tedious compliance functions, saving a ton of time.• Created weekly KPI reporting framework to monitor business targets against performance. Worked with corporate parent to increase visibility and implement proper data & analytics around the conversion funnel for credit cards.• Created Paid Marketing function from the ground up, initially single handedly to learn the function and later hiring and working with outside agencies. When I left, the Paid Marketing budget was in the seven figures.• Created TPG Sub-Affiliate Program, offering media publishers the ability to monetize credit card content and leverage the TPG brand, while TPG’s bank partners benefit with earned media from top-tier publishers. I left The Points Guy after completing integration with new corporate parent Red Ventures. -
Fractional CooHype Machine Apr 2007 - Dec 2016Partnered with Anthony (Founder & CEO) to advise him on the business side of the boot-strapped music discovery startup, ranging from monetization & business development to finance & taxes. Oversaw P&L of Hype Hotel events at SXSW, entertaining thousands at one of SXSW Music’s largest venues with the support of sponsors like Taco Bell and Mazda. -
Vp, Operations / Chief Operating OfficerGawker Jun 2012 - Dec 2015New York, Ny, UsI was the Senior Executive reporting to the Founder & CEO responsible for Global Operations, including finance, financial planning & analysis, corporate legal, people & culture, facilities, and special projects. As Gawker (and its collection of sites including Gizmodo, Deadspin, Lifehacker, Jezebel, etc) evolved from a bootstrapped startup to a global business with over $50 million per year in revenue and with over 100 million readers globally, I built and led the teams that made it run. Some highlights include: • Oversaw Finance team which enhanced Gawker’s reporting and internal controls -- everything from a formal monthly close, regular KPI reporting to Management and audited financials to a proper annual planning and budgeting process.• Worked closely with Product Team on entire site experience, ranging from ad product to commenting.• Negotiated and secured $15.5 million of debt financing ($8 million term loan to fund office buildout and $7.5 million revolver against AR) on favorable terms.• Created People Operations functions from scratch, including building an in-house recruiting function, expanding internal communications, bringing payroll inhouse, etc.• Led company offsites to Budapest in 2012 and 2014, bringing over 80 US employees together with the Hungarian team of 20+ for company meetings, breakout sessions, and a music festival on an island between Buda and Pest.• Managed all aspects of new offices in both New York’s Flatiron District (60k+ sq ft) and Budapest, from real estate search & lease negotiation to buildout.• Oversaw all Corporate Legal functions, including managing the overall corporate structure (entities in the US, Hungary, Cayman Islands), intercompany transfers, equity & cap table, board meetings, etc. I left Gawker after a decade ready for my next challenge (and before a certain trial in Florida). -
Director, Editorial OperationsGawker Dec 2009 - Jun 2012New York, Ny, UsOversaw all operations in Editorial, the largest department by both headcount and budget. Oversaw Editorial marketing & promotion, events, community, operations, social media, data and analytics, finance/budgets, staffing/HR, editorial-focused business development and special projects. • Worked with site Editors-in-Chief to create formal labor, freelance and T&E budgets -- and manage against them.• Created editorial bonus program based on unique visitors.• Centralized management of social media assets like Facebook and Twitter pages, and managed key relationships with social media partners including Twitter and Facebook.• Partnered with Sales & Marketing team to leverage upcoming features and recurring sections that could be sold.• Worked with Technology & Product team on editorial feature request backlog and managed communication with Editorial team. -
