For over past 25 years I have been active in Sales and Sales Leadership roles.I am passionate about sales and sales leadership, I always have been, but why? Well the answer is simple, I help people solve complex problems, I make their jobs easier, I have seen people praised and promoted based on decisions that started with investing in both myself and the organizations I work for and, in turn, I have often seen their personal lives change for the better. With each opportunity we work on we have an opportunity to improve someone’s overall quality of life..... be it from a business and/or personal perspective. As business leaders, we also have a unique opportunity to coach others to understand how to create these win-win scenarios for both our team members and their customers. As Sales professionals we can exhaust ourselves searching for that magic bullet, the one that will revolutionize and unlock the secrets of selling. I’m always open to learning something new and certainly there have been many skills I have learned and enhanced along the way but one thing I have noticed is that the fundamentals that drive success in sales never seem to change. Over my career I have compiled a list of fundamental ideals that have been instrumental in achieving my own success and the success of my teams; - There is a science to selling. There is a direct correlation between your quota, pipeline and personal & organizational win percentages. Your ability to understand and calculate your funnel requirement will greatly impact your overall success- Before a solution is presented, fully understand your customer’s business objectives, their challenges and their success metrics. Alignment is critical in acquiring approvals from all levels within an organization - Oversell a customer, even just once, and you’re likely to lose that customer for life. Honesty, integrity and over-delivering is the key to repeat business and relationship selling- Ensure everyone on your team feels recognized for their contributions (you never make a sale alone. If you don’t believe that, you’re simply wrong)- If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, do something else- Never miss an opportunity to improve- A lost opportunity is a learning opportunity....not an opportunity for excuses- Learn in defeat, remain professional, stay positive and always then look ahead- If you don’t find satisfaction in seeing others succeed and taking a back-seat to that success, you’re a leader by title only
