The Print Buyer is responsible for the timely coordination of the print production process, and for cost effective and accurate production of all direct mail, special projects, and other printed marketing campaigns. The Print Buyer is responsible for documenting and monitoring the production process at a global level.

Instructed and oversaw 3-6 inmates per day in the craft of print production and order fulfillment for the non-profit industries in the local area. Projects included production of brochures, forms, event tickets, business cards, booklets and flyers. Key Accomplishments;- Creation of lesson plans with the focus on print production tactical skills and theory as well as team based skills that would enable success long-term.- Daily organization and motivation of a sometimes unfocused staff to ensure maximum learning and productivity for successful project fulfillment.

As Digital Supervisor I was responsible for and managed the start-up operations of the newly needed Southern California digital book facility. This included securing location of 10K sq ft facility, negotiating lease terms, hiring a staff of 7 for three, eight hour shifts, floor plan creation, installation of all equipment and most importantly, making sure we met and exceed the expectations of our customers. Key Accomplishment included;- Created efficient work space, timely installation of equipment needs and managed successful workflow processes that enabled the creation of 500+ books for a total of 150K pages daily.

As Print Production Manager for a 200 million dollar company with offices in Thousand Oaks, London, Singapore, New Delhi, and Washington D.C. I was responsible for the 4 million dollar book printing budget for the Thousand Oaks office. This translated into close to 300 new titles each year and reprinting from 400 to 600 titles from their backlist annually.My role at Sage was to negotiate schedules and pricing while working with our printers constantly pushing for best quality possible. I partnered with printers in California, Michigan, North Carolina, Minnesota, China and Singapore. I was also responsible for project schedule after final sign off of content. Proactive problem solving with final file review and post production lessons learned.My greatest contribution was in cost reduction. From 2002 to 2010 I reduced printing costs over 45%. In 2008 through 2010 I cultivated a vendor in California enabling freight costs to drop 85%. When encyclopedia print quantities dropped from 1,200 copies to 750, I was able to find a digital printer that printed case bound books in Mexico. Their lower fixed costs allowed us to pay the same unit cost as the higher print run, with better quality.

At Guthy Renker I managed the print production department that serviced the core Marketing Department for GR comprised of 6 Marketing Managers . This required that I negotiated pricing for a variety of marketing, packaging, and promotional projects. I determined job specifications and provided recommendations to marketing category directors based on budget. Quality was controlled by working closely with designer, film house, and/or printer to assure problem free electronic art files, correct color balance, and consistent prepress/press specs. I press checked all critical color projects to confirm quality. I coordinated direct mail programs through local and Midwest vendors. Negotiated pricing and coordinated with marketing department on mail list formatting (i.e., merge purge, record layouts, postal sortation). I wrote lettershop instructions and assumed responsibility for accurate and timely mail drop.One of my proudest moments was when I was able to negotiate the paper cost of a print run of three million inserts by 3%. This saved GR $50,000. This was about what my salary was then too ;)
