I underwent an extended contract of undergraduate work in the Hunter Valley of NSW. My role was based within the planning office where I was involved in the following tasks:• The use of mining software packages including Minescape and 3d-Dig.• Design pit shells for respective shovels or excavators.• Design of lowall dumping sections including cut-fills and roll-overs.• Designing within geotechnical limitations.• Monitoring short-term and mid-term projects.• Determining reserves and respective volumes.• Risk Assessments and safety discussions.• Dragline dig design and cost analysis• Extensive use of Microsoft excel including data analysis, assumptions and checklists.I have also had exposure to the following areas:• Geology and geotechnical concepts• Drill and blast scheduling and considerations• Coal and partings monitoring• Management of lowall dumping operations

Mandalong And Myuna

I underwent six weeks of vacation work with Centennial, where I was located across both Mandalong and Myuna sites. During this time I was introduced to the underground coal mining environment by spending some time as a participating member of a mining crew. I was also rotated around different areas of technical services, getting exposure to surveying, geology and mining engineering tasks relevant to my university studies.
