I practice intellectual property law, with a particular focus on litigation. I have represented domestic and multinational clients in patent litigation in pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical, mechanical and software technologies, and have considerable experience in trademark, copyright, industrial design and trade secret litigation, and in domain name disputes. Much of my litigation experience has been as part of international teams fighting large multinational IP disputes. I led B&P's team that received Managing IP award for 2021 Trademark Impact Case of the Year.I also have an active practice before the Canadian Trademarks Opposition Board, and advise clients on trademark portfolio and dispute strategies.I regularly write and speak on IP issues. I am a co-author of the "Intellectual Property Trial" chapter of the Intellectual Property Disputes: Resolutions and Remedies treatise, published by Carswell and, as well, the co-author of the "Opposition Proceedings" chapter of the Canadian Trademark Law Benchbook, also published by Carswell. I am dedicated to the advancement of the IP profession. I am a past member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) Board of Directors - chairing one of the Board’s committees - a past member of its North America Global Advisory Council, and was, amongst other committee assignments, the co-Chair of the INTA Course on International Trademark Law and Practice. I am and have been an active committee member for a number of IP organizations, including the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) – serving at present on its Conference Committee and its Indigenous IP Advisory Group, and having chaired other IPIC committees for more than a dozen years. I am committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. I chaired B&P's Diversity & Inclusion efforts for 7 years; our team's efforts were recognized by Chambers as the "2020 Outstanding Firm for Furthering Diversity & Inclusion (Canada)". I am also a member of INTA's Presidential Task Force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and have participated in the organizing DEI efforts of IPIC and the University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA).I am a passionate supporter of the University of Toronto (UofT). I am, and have been for more than 20 years, an Adjunct Professor of Patent and Trade Secret law at UofT's law school. I am an Alumni Governor-elect of the University's Governing Council, a past President of the UTAA, a past Chair of the University's College of Electors, and a past board member of UofT's Engineering Alumni Association Executive.
