Creation and conduction of tailored Infrastructure Conferences and Exhibitions

Leadership of the Conference and Association Services Teams

Scott was engaged to grow the number, and range, of conferences and exhibitions that were then being conducted by the fledgling Hallmark Conferences + Events Division.

Scott was responsible for the Association’s Strategic Development including development, planning and implementation of strategic programmes. These programmes were implemented by Strategic Development Staff (ie Publications, Seminars, Conferences) and by Construction Solutions Staff. It included conducting of the Association’s National Market Development Committee.The targeting and relationship management of professional and other groups of key decision makers in the Australian Construction and Design Industry

This position reported to the Chief Executive Officer (Australia) and was responsible for the Association’s activities in WA, SA, Vic, Tas and the NT. The role also effectively included the management of the Victoria Branch of the Concrete Institute (Learned Society); and partnering with various Allied Industry Bodies.The role entailed a broad mix of responsibilities including the development and implementation of Marketing Strategies, Public Relations Strategies, Industry Representation and Lobbying, Association Management, Staff and People Management.These duties were faced with the challenge of uniting diverse interests and organisations to the common good. Organisations dealt with range in size from one-man bands to multinationals. This position consequently demanded communication, networking and negotiation skills of the highest order.

This position reported to the Chief Executive Officer (Australia) and to a Victorian Board of Management consisting of Victorian Members. The role included the management of the Victorian Branches of the Concrete Institute (Learned Society; 420 members), and the Australian Pre-Mixed Concrete Association (30 company members). An active involvement with the Victorian Branches of the Concrete Masonry Association of Australia and the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia to conduct joint marketing programmes was also integral to the role.These roles entail a broad mix of responsibilities including the development and implementation of Marketing Strategies, Public Relations Strategies, Industry Representation and Lobbying, Association Management, People (&Member) Management and Industry Education and Training.These duties were faced with the challenge of uniting diverse interests and organisations to the common good. Member size range from one-man bands to multinationals such as CSR, Boral and BHP. This position consequently demanded communication, networking and negotiation skills of the highest order.

The position reported to the Victorian Regional Manager and principally involved the development and implementation of marketing programmes for segments of the market for cement and cement based products in the region. Principal market segments being the pavement and housing markets.

Performed duties of a professional engineer for the Victorian Road Authority. During this period, five distinct work environments were experienced:• Pavement design and investigation for new construction and maintenance.• Liaison for project (shopping centres etc.) development.• Examination of plans and specifications for Municipal Roadworks and liaison with Council staff.• Supervision and financial control of construction and maintenance projects.• Traffic Engineering Design; participating in design teams.

Part time involvement in a house construction company operated by members of my family, including a period as a Director.Principally this entailed part time employment in the Housing Construction Industry, for PL Matthews and Associates, together with various other Builders and Housing Contractors. This involved all aspects of house construction, design and sales. The majority of construction work consisted of brick veneer dwellings constructed on concrete slabs.
