About Scott Mclewin

I enjoy problem solving and being part a team that gets to collaboratively tackle challenging business and software puzzles.I am a certified Associate Solutions Architect on AWS and have over a decade of experience working with AWS. I've spent years managing teams working to transition customer bases from locally installed software to SaaS delivered solutions. Most of this experience is with native cloud concepts, including serverless compute, use of functions, NoSQL techniques, containers (Docker) and event driven architectures.I have specialized experience in SaaS and have been working in distributed systems architecture and implementation since 1994 when I began working on financial market data feeds in service of trading floors globally. Since 2015 I've been working in a DevSecOps practice supporting an AWS native microservices solution.I have worked with and around a wide range of technologies. I have coded in C#/.Net, C, C++98, Java, PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I have managed staff using all of these languages as well as C++11, Objective C for iOS, Java for Android and TypeScript/JavaScript with React. I have used, administered and coded in Linux in some capacity since 1993 and Windows since v3.0. I have over 30 years experience in multi-threaded, event driven asynchronous programming models.Beyond my technical knowledge, I also have deep experience in building and leading software engineering teams. I am an amateur musician, playing both Violin and Mandolin. In 2016 I co-founded the Mandolin Orchestra of Kansas City, a 501c3 non-profit organization.

  • Balance Innovations, A Brink'S Division
    Chief Technology Officer
    Balance Innovations, A Brink'S Division Apr 2023 - Present
    Lenexa, Ks, Us
Responsible for leading our DevSecOps practice, including the software engineering teams that build and operate VeriBalance. I work with our product management and customer facing teams to set and manage expectations on the chronology of incremental releases that will be delivered to our customers.Responsible for the IT functions that keep our division operating. The VeriBalance product facilitates our fully managed cash solution Brink's Complete Enterprise. Through the optimizations and workflow standardization that VeriBalance brings to the cash office Brink's is able to make a simple promise: your retail operation will maintain just enough cash, will not run out and will have rapid access to the capital that deposit funds represent. While the promise is simple, the technology behind fulfilling this promise is rewarding to work with. Our teams manages development and operations of an AWS software stack that is natively event driven and serverless. Automation is key to our success and is the foundation of the guardrails that allow distributed decision making. I strongly believe that decisions around software deployment should be made as close to the information as is possible.Over the last four years we've invested heavily in education and training to support our transition from installed solutions to SaaS offerings. We operate as a full remote distributed team.
