Public Policy Director
Current• Oversees the public policy activities of a federally-funded state agency• Works with a 27-member Governor-appointed board to set goals, establish legislative priorities and position statements; creates and implements strategies to advance TCDD agenda• Monitors policy discussions of Texas Legislature, state agency boards and advisory committees• Manages a staff of full-time policy specialists to analyze key issues, develop position papers and issue briefs, provide testimony at legislative hearings, and offer comments on agency rulemaking• Coordinates the quarterly meetings of TCDD Public Policy Committee, gathers input from members, offers presentations on relevant topics, and provides updates on staff activities• Maintains strategic partnerships with advocacy organizations to collaborate on common goals • Drafts and edits weekly alerts for website and email list during the legislative session, including “Bill of the Week” and “Legislative News;” produces 30-second video updates for social media• Conducts presentations on legislative advocacy and the work of TCDD to groups across the state; plans and moderates an ongoing series of panel discussions on key policy issues• Helps to coordinate agency grant activities; oversees the development of Executive Summaries and RFAs, provides informational webinars and facilitates peer review panels• Reviews grant applications and makes recommendations to TCDD Executive Committee• Analyzes and reports on systems change outcomes of agency grant projects• Compiles key information for annual report and 5-year state plan to federal government
